Stablemates was formed to promote the works of the acclaimed sax player and composer Benny Golson.

Tunes like Stablemates, Whisper Not, Killer Joe and Along Came Betty have become part of the jazz repertoire and are synonymous with the 50's/early 60's modern jazz. In the mid 60's Golson moved into composing music for films and TV working on such shows as Ironside, M.A.S.H and Mission Impossible. He later moved back to playing jazz gigs from the late 70's and has toured regularly since then.

Dominic Howles moved to London from Bristol when he got the gig with the Tommy Chase Quartet in 1990. He then received a full scholarship to study on the post graduate Jazz course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama from 1991-1992. After that he has been busy working on the British Jazz Scene playing with musicians including Jim Mullen, Alan Barnes, Stacy Kent, Anita Wardell, Nick Brignola, Gary Smulyan, Blue Harlem, Don Weller, Gareth Lockrane, Dave O'Higgins as well as

many others.

In 2018 Dominic released a quintet CD "Along Came Benny" which is a tribute to Benny Golson.
